It is Rothenburg not Roghlesburger

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is quite the place. We were afraid that it would be over run with tourists, like San Gimiangano Italy. Well the way to see one of these splendid walled cities, is to wait for the buses full of tourists from all over the world to leave, and to stay here in the evening. It is wonderful. Pat is on a tour with the "night watchman and I headed back to the room, as I am now getting a little road weary. I can't deal with one more tour. The train trip from Salzburg to the Munich airport to pick up a car, was very interesting, and hassle free. Well not quite. I seem to have lost a change purse with about 100 euros in it. My system of carrying money and credit cards did work though because I had nothing else in that change purse but money. It has agitated me, but that's the way it goes when you are trying to manage multiple bags and trains. The train system in Europe is still good. The high speed trains are really comfortable and efficient and it looks like a lot of EU money is being devoted to railroad infrastructure. Imagine if you could get a train from Ann Arbor to Traverse City and it took 2 and a half hours. Happens all the time in Europe.

We did get the car, took off and drove to the "Romantic Highway".  Dan

Rothenburg by night

I just got back from my Night Watchman tour, which was excellent.  He gave a very informative history of this town, but also what it was like to live during the Middle Ages.  This town was very prosperous, but still, the conditions were difficult.   He ended with talking about WWII, when 40% of this was bombed.  It was bombed because a Nazi general moved his troops here from Nurenberg, and went with the "no surrender" command of Hitler.   The Americans bombed once, then were going to destroy the town, when the American general decided to give them a surrender option because he knew it was such a historic town, and the  head commander of the town surrendered the town at risk to his peril, as the Nazi general was out of town, and he basically betrayed him.    Very interesting tour.
Nice place, nice hotel room, quiet and calm.   I have a lot more energy today!
