From the Frying Pan into the Fire or Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

Museum of CommunismWent to the Museum of Communism this afternoon.  it  was very interesting.

Dumpy place, bad bathroom, hot and dirty, and we thought this was appropriate.  It was mostly written posters, with Soviet propaganda all around, but the most interesting thing was the movie they showed.    It makes us realize how life was in these Central European countries we have been visiting.  Life was difficult!   We distain the crowds here or the capitalism, but how important and wonderful for them that they have the freedom they have wanted after so many years of oppression from their 2 neighboring countries.  The same is true of course of Poland.   It was a sobering moment for us to reflect on their histories.
This is the first time either of us has been in any formerly USSR countries, and visiting this museum really brought that point home to us.    I hope we all, including the young people of these countries, remember this oppression.
One other interesting thing we have found about Prague is that the sale of Absinthe has never been banned, and they think of it as a national specialty, I think.   I really tried to like it, as I enjoy the "wicked" history of it, but really, it's fierce.
